Although it is a Chapel Hill address, it is located just into Chatham County. The main part of the structure was built circa 1890.
This was North Carolina playwright Paul Green's house from 1965 to 1981; he died here. His writing cabin, a converted tobacco barn, is still on the 25-acre property. A North Carolina Highway Historical Marker is located nearby.
During its years as Windy Oaks Inn, a bed and breakfast, banquet hall, and wedding venue, the home had extensive work done to manage guests.
The Pendola family purchased the structure in May of 2017 with the intent to operate a bed and breakfast, host weddings, and have various community events. It is now called the Old Lystra Inn.
