Brodie S. Carr started his business in a filling station January 25, 1925 on what was then Highway 10 (it was renamed 70A several years later; now it's also Revere Road). Carr was working as a timekeeper for the Eno Mill, but was let go when the mill downsized its workforce. With a loan of $900.00 from a friend and $5.00 from his father (!) he opened this business.

He rented the building for $15.00 a month. In 1933 or 1934 he purchased the property. In 1935 he added another room on the left/east side of the structure, with four more additions made to the structure between 1935 and 1943.

In 1949-1950, Carr had the building extensively remodeled; it was rebuilt with brick and expanded to 3,000 square feet. It was Hillsborough's first supermarket.

Carr had a new structure built across the street in 1961 and moved the grocery store into it. At some point between the 1970s and the 1990s, the structure was again extensively remodeled.
