This property was purchased by James Freeland in September 1961. Sometime between then and 1963, a restaurant and motel were built on the property by James Freeland. Both businesses were at one point operated by Raymond Montgomery. The restaurant is said to have been a favorite of local and state klan members in the mid-1960s. The restaurant was previously named Neal's Restaurant.

All the structures on this property were demolished by 1975. Circa 1978 a Hardee's fast food restaurant was built on the front part of the site, and in 1980 the Occoneechee Steakhouse was built at the rear.
