Shepperd Strudwick was a fertilizer broker in Norfolk, VA, and Richmond, VA, founder and president of Bellevue Cotton Mills, a banker, a postmaster, and a woodcarver.
 
He married to Susan Nash Read (1876-1960) June 24, 1897, in Massachusetts.
 
Their sons were Clement Read Strudwick (1900-1958), Edmund Strudwick III (1909-1973), and the actor Shepperd Strudwick, Jr.

Shepperd Strudwick died at the Yancey Rest Home December 27, 1968, and is buried at the Hillsborough Town Cemetery.

The National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C., has a collection of Strudwick's artwork.
